Over the next few months, you will see an increasing number of posts on sports. Mainly football. Well, today is the day of our (meaning my team, the Florida State Seminoles) opening game. We play at Clemson at 5 pm PST. As I sit here on my couch, I can hardly wait one more hour.
I had some business to take care of earlier in the day but am home now with my gameshirt on. This looks to be a tough game too. It is the classic Bowden Bowl. Bobby Bowden (FSU coach and father) vs Tommy Bowden (Clemson coach and son). These contests have been going on for eight years now and the games are not all fun and games. Mrs. Bowden has been torn between the two and she often, as she will again this year, miss the game. But amidst all the hype and media coverage is the fact that this is a tough first game for Florida State.
Last year we had a tough first game with Miami which we won. What we thought was a good win that would springboard us into the season proved to be merely a win over a struggling program. We ended the season 7-6 which is the most losses under Bobby Bowden since 1986 when we went 7-4-1. But this year is to be a rebuilding year. We have hired four new coaches on our staff and picked up several young players who have promising talent.
All in all it will be an interesting game. I believe this game will set the tone for our season. We are ranked 19th in the AP top 25 poll. With the losses of Tennessee and Michigan, we are due to move up in the rankings if we win tonight.
We shall see. I will post more after the game.
